Profile and Success Story of Elon Musk

Elon Musk: Thinker, Dreamer, Master Businessman

Elon Reeve Musk was born on June 28, 1971 in Pretoria, South Africa. His father is Errol Musk and his mother is Canadian, Maye. According to Errol, who still lives in South Africa until now, Elon has always been a thinker since childhood. When they went to a party, everyone was chatting, joking, while drinking, but Elon was more engrossed in exploring the house’s library.

When he was three or four years old, Elon asked, “Where is (the so-called) ‘the whole world’?” Questions like that made Errol (engineer, pilot and sailor) realize that this one child was a bit different. Errol and Maye divorced when Elon was only 10 years old. After the divorce, Elon, Kimball (younger brother), and Tosca (younger sister) joined their father (other sources say, after they were teenagers). Around the 1980s, Errol worked as a consultant and property developer in Pretoria. Elon and Kimball attended Pretoria Boys High School (PBHS). According to Gavin Ehlers, head of the Elon class who also graduated in 1988, this thinker doesn’t stand out.

But he graduated with honors for physics and computing. Computer self-taught programmer. What an amazing time it was! Elon fell madly in love. Here’s Errol’s story to Jay Caboz, of Forbes Africa: At that time computers were just in their infancy. Elon asked to be allowed to take computer courses. There is a computer course that brings together computer experts from the UK and other countries. Unfortunately not for small children. “Elon insisted on coming,” said Errol.

Luckily as an engineer Errol was able to also reserve a seat in the opening ceremony for his son. It is located at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. So he brought little Elon with the prescribed dress code: suit, flannel trousers, and tie. The committee had ordered, Elon should just sit on the sidelines and must be silent. Errol and Kimbal left Elon alone to listen to the three hour lecture. When it was finished, everyone had left, Elon did not appear. They found him in the hall, tie and jacket off, sleeves rolled up. The boy who was only about 1.3 m tall was having a serious conversation with computer experts from England! Seeing his father coming closer, one of the professors immediately said that “this child needs to buy a computer immediately.” So Errol bought one. Elon taught himself with the Disk Operating System, DOS, to make programs. A year later he sold his first software, Balstar. He is only 12 years old.

There is another side to Elon’s relationship with his father. According to Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX and the Quest for a Fantastic Future written by Ashlee Vance, the relationship between Elon and his father was not good. Elon even agreed with his ex-wife, Justine, not to allow their five children to meet Errol. Thought to be deaf Maye Musk holds two Masters degrees in nutrition. But this nutritionist has another profession that is unique to a woman of her age: modeling, which she has been practicing until now at the age of 68. Maye was born in Canada, but raised in South Africa. Maye loves reading and science. But since she was a girl she also worked as a model, at an agency owned by her mother’s friend. After graduating as a nutritionist from the University of Pretoria, she married Errol Musk.

Within three years, she gave birth to three children. He told Fortune that he was worried that Elon would be deaf because he was so quiet. Only then did he realize, if Elon was silent it meant he was busy thinking. No wonder Elon is often the target of bullying. Usually, Tosca steps up to defend her sister. When Elon was 17 years old, he decided to emigrate to Canada. Maye joined, especially since she still holds Canadian citizenship. Elon’s two younger siblings were also brought along. Elon first attended Queens University, but in 1992 he transferred to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pasadena. There he took the S-1 program majoring in business and physics until he graduated.

After graduating, Elon and Kimbal moved to California to set up the company Zip2 Corp. Zip2 provides city guides online. Before long, Zip2 had become a content provider for the new websites of the major newspapers the New York Times and the Chicago Tribune. In addition, Elon has registered to take the doctoral program in the field of energy physics at Stanford University, California, one of the top universities in the US. In the midst of the excitement of business development and internet progress at that time, goodbye S-3 program! Every six weeks, Maye flies in from Toronto to see her two champions.

At that time, Elon and Kimbal slept under the office desk and shared a bath at the YMCA lodging building. Multimillionaires In 1998, Elon and Kimball gave their mother a 50th birthday gift of a miniature car and a wooden house. They promised, “Someday we’ll buy Mom a real house and car.” Turns out they weren’t bullshit. A year later, in 1999, CompaqComputers bought Zip2 for US$307 million in cash plus US$34 million in stock options! Elon is still a 27-year-old young man and has only been living in the US for about five years. With capital in hand, that same year Elon Musk founded his second company. This time it is an online financial services company. His name is X.com. In 2000, X.com acquired another company and founded the famous PayPal.

In just two years, in 2002, PayPal was acquired by eBay for US$1.5 billion in stock. Prior to the transaction, Elon Musk already controlled 11% of PayPal shares. With his fast moves, in the same year, Elon Musk founded his third company. Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, abbreviated as SpaceX, was founded with the goal of establishing spacecraft for commercial travel. Six years later, in 2008, the company won a contract with NASA to handle the transportation of cargo from Earth to the International Space Station. Following that contract, May 22, 2012, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket made history: the first private unmanned rocket launched to deliver 500 kg of supplies to astronauts working on the International Space Station.

Elon Musk is said to have said, “I feel like I won the lottery…!” Falcon 9 departed again in December 2013, this time carrying a satellite in orbit around Earth. In February 2015, Falcon 9 successfully delivered the Deep Space Climate Observatory’s weather monitoring satellite. Elon’s interest is not just “playing around” in outer space. He also has a “toy” called Tesla Motors, an electric car company founded in 2003. The goal is to produce electric cars en masse and cheaply. Five years later Tesla launched the Roadster, a sports car that can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds! Tesla has also produced the Model S electric sedan and was awarded the 2013 Car of the Year award from Motor Trend Magazine.

However, according to Forbes, the company has not been profitable. In August 2016, Elon Musk signed a contract that wed Tesla Motor Inc. with his cousin’s SolarCity Corp. Many investors are skeptical of his move. Musk steps are not always smooth. In May 2016, his Tesla crashed into a tractor trailer. Last September, a SpaceX rocket caught fire while refueling. But you can be sure, the person with No. 34 in the Forbes 400 Richest People in the World 2016 will continue to run fast to pursue his dreams.

Competing With the “First Wife”

The saying “There is no free lunch” also applies to Elon Musk. His shining star in the business world has not been accompanied by the same luck at home. In January 2000, following Compaq Computer’s acquisition of Zip2, Elon Musk married Justine, a college friend at Queens University in Toronto. Justine, who is now a writer, seems unprepared to be the best man who goes from just a start-up businessman to a millionaire in a very short time. Gradually, with the increasing success of Elon Musk’s business, and her role in society, Justine realized that she was not ready to be a “trophy wife”: submissive, beautiful, ready to appear as a companion in public, but no voice at all in relationships at home. In 2008, they divorced. Both were blessed with five sons.

According to the pre-wedding agreement, Justine gets nothing but a house. In 2008 Elon Musk married British actress Talulah Riley. Two years later they divorced. Then remarried in July 2013, to finally divorce again in 2016. They have no children. Unlike Justine, Talulah received US$16 million in divorce benefits. Now Justine is struggling at the table h? au to get divorce severance as well. With working hours of 100 hours per week, Elon admits that he wakes up at 07.00 and sleeps at 01.00 in the morning. Even when he is with his children, he still multi-tasks by sending emails. It seems that whoever becomes Elon Musk’s wife has to accept that they can’t beat Elon’s “first wife”, namely his business.
