Definition and Types of Indonesian Electric Cars

Types of propulsion technology and power sources. There are at least four types of electric vehicle (EV) technology currently being developed by the world’s automotive companies. Let’s be absent one by one.

Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) is a combination of a combustion engine with an electric motor drive. The combustion engine still needs to ‘chug’ fuel oil, while the electric drive motor gets energy supply from the car’s braking system (regenerative braking) to recharge the battery. HEV type cars include the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid, Nissan X-Trail Hybrid, Lexus ES300h and Honda CR-Z.

Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) carries the energy generated from fuel cells, namely the chemical reaction of hydrogen with oxygen to produce electrical energy. The development of this car is included in the zero emission vehicle category, for example the Toyota Mirai, Honda FCEV, Hyundai FCEV and so on.

The Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) still combines a combustion engine with an electric motor drive. The difference is that the energy to recharge the battery can be recharged through general electricity charging. While driving, the PHEV also has a recharging system through kinetic braking or regenerative braking. Quite a number of car manufacturers are adopting this technology. for example Toyota Prius PHEV, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, BMW i8, Honda Clarity, Chevrolet Volt and Mercedes-Benz C350e.

The Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) has abandoned the combustion engine, which is driven entirely by electricity stored in lithium-ion batteries. Recharging the battery relies on a power supply from public electric charging stations. Manufacturers that have marketed BEVs include Nissan Leaf, BMW i3, Ford Focus Electric, Volkswagen e-Golf, Tesla Model S, Mitsubishi i-Miev and so on.
